Theme for the Week: Courage

We all can think of people who displayed courage: Mother Theresa, Ghandi, Mandela etc.

In books, who do you think shows courage:

I have three stories to start off:

Hanging on to Max: this is the story of a young man who wants to raise his son after his girlfriend wants to adopt their baby. I think the character was very courageous because of how he handled the situation but also how the story ended.

Room on Lorelai Street is the story of a young woman who decides to leave home because of difficult circumstances. Her actions and her decision to make this move all show courage.

The Lottery by Beth Goobie is about a high school girl and how she is bullied and abused by a secret society. In the story, you feel empathy for the character but also admiration for the way she copes with this difficult situation on her own.

Can you think of a story you read that showed courage?

Television Series on Dvds

Mina raised the question about t.v. series dvds. We have many series like Gilmore Girls, ER, 24, etc.

They are not the latest season (from last May) but as we get them, they are brought into the branches.

Another thing worth mentioning, if you have relatives visiting from your homeland or relatives who do not speak English, we also have multilingual dvds. We do not keep all languages in all branches but they can be couriered in from one branch to another.

BTW, has anyone read the new Harry Potter? This is the best of her last four titles. It was so good that I couldn't put it down. I was sad, satisfied and cross-eyed when I finished it in 2 days.
